An artist works to capture moments of truth, not simply moments of
beauty. I choose to express the truth and beauty of the world around
me and hopefully those themes more universal through the images of
daily life. I choose to reveal what others choose not to see. So much
of our daily life goes unexamined, un-viewed. Perhaps my view is simply
the amblers glance of the world. I stray toward trying to see the
world through the eyes of others. I yearn for alternate perspectives,
other visions. I studied studio art at
Tulane University (Newcomb College) in New Orleans, the College
of DuPage, and Loyola University, Chicago. I graduated with both
a B.A. in Sociology and B.S. in Anthropolgy with a minor in Art
from Loyola University, Chicago. In 1996, before beginning graduate
school, I took a position with Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor
Sports (then PACE Entertainment).
The company offered me the opportunity to develop
their internet department. I never made it to graduate school in
1997. Through my work as a website designer and an online journalist
my interest in photojournalism grew. My position allows me to travel
extensively through the United States. Working with top sports photographers
like Frank Hoppen and Steve Bruhn fueled my passion for photography.
Although I had been taking photos since I was 13, I had never considered
photography an art until working with professionals. With some encouragement
I began taking photos again, for some purpose other that to preserve
and image that would later become a drawing or painting. After beginning
my career my passion for art never faltered, but for the first time
since my early childhood my patience for my own skill ran short.
After a few years I had all but given up painting.
In 2003 a trip to Italy inspired me to begin painting
and drawing again. I hope you enjoy what you see. If I have taken
you out of your life for a moment and made you stop and look twice;
then I have done what I set out to do.
